Rangers Upon the Coast - Session 10

In the hopes of driving the druids there away and currying enough favor with Cioran in Culemwardern to escort us south past the pirate blockade, we went to Cloyne with Forgall. We were thoroughly unwelcome. We scared some townsfolk, dislocated a man’s arm, and killed an invisible druid. We earned 400sp worth of gold coins from Ghom, and some strange treasure.

Party

  • Unhindered Procession (Matthew)
  • Braga (Brendan)
  • Aethelwig (Galgoa)
  • Brânwen (Autumn)
  • Kel / Sonorant (Anthony)
  • Refereed by Danni

Intention

We will chase the druids out of Cloyne, bringing security to Culemwardern and (hopefully) honor back to Forgall’s name.

Summary

A Group of Idle Rowers Recount The Events of the Excursion to Cloyne

  • Penda, a powerful rower. Regarded as a fool, but well-loved.
  • Helgi, a tireless rower and a terrible conversationalist.
  • Caelin, a great lover of fishing, and of sneaking extra fish to the young gryphon. A daydreamer who cannot row for their life.
  • Arnau, a clumsy rower, but a determined one.
  • Wihard, the laziest rower and best drinking mate.

Calling on Forgall

As argued by the oar-rowers of the flotilla, none of whom were present.

  1. Wihard: Forgall, who foolishly claimed he would kill the gryphon, was waiting on the docks when the karvi came to Culemwardern. Cioran and his guards drummed their shields to honor him as he left. Forgall brought no weapons with him, claiming his words would be enough.”
  2. Arnau: Forgall had to be dragged from his home, and an axe was thrust into his hand as he wept. He is a coward, and a fool, I hate his mother, and he’s a miserable kisser.”
  3. Helgi: Forgall was eager to go to Cloyne to do battle against the druids, and was dressed in his finest arms and armor. He did as honor demanded, but the wind ungraced his sails when he realized that we were not a larger force. We failed him, not the other way around.”
  4. Penda: Forgall didn’t even come with us to Cloyne, that was Earnan—Cioran’s man. Their hair is completely different.”

Calling on Beyf

As argued by the oar-rowers of the flotilla, none of whom were present.

  1. Wihard: Beyf, the town’s stongest warrior, stood proud and bald at the entrance to Cloyne. Seeing the mighty Braga, who was a full two heads taller than him, he cowered and offered to lead the party to the druids. But it was a trick! He led them into the wilds only to reveal his true nature as a bear-beast, covered in thorny spines and drooling the blood of the Albanns who dared to come there before.”
  2. Caelin: No, depths below, what hogshit—Beyf was taller than Braga. Seeking to challenge a worthy foe, she without hesitation ripped Beyf’s arm out of it’s socket, and beat him with his own arm until a bolt of lightning ripped down from the heavens and smote him dead—an act of mercy from God. It was another of the Cloynesfolk who got her to stop by offering to lead our warriors to the druid.”
  3. Arnau: That’s all wrong. No one is taller than Braga, for one, and he had a beautiful head of long red hair besides. It was because Brânwen wouldn’t sit down after Beyf invited everyone inside that a fight started. But Braga did rip that man’s arm off, that part is true.”
  4. Penda: It was the folk who ran away from the party in the fields who ran to Cloyne to warn them we were bearing down upon them. Beyf rose up and challenged the party to a duel outside of town. They never even stepped foot in Cloyne.”

Calling on The Man Who Lived Among The Rocky Places Beyond The Road

As argued by the oar-rowers of the flotilla, none of whom were present.

  1. Arnau: The man hid amongst the rainy cliffs from up high and kicked boulders down onto them. Only three found their mark, killing Aethelw—oh, he’s alive? Well nevermind, and good for him. Was it Procession? No? Nobody died? From the rocks, are we sure?”
  2. Helgi: It was Kel’s ingenuity that helped them find that man, invisible through unknown powers. Everyone’s ferocity and readiness had them upon him in an instant, and he put up little fight after that.”
  3. Caelin: The druid summoned up great storm winds, which picked up the boulders in that rocky canyon and hurled them at the party. He bloodied Procession, who speared him through the gut. Aethelwig cut the man in half, cutting Procession’s spear in half in the process. I’m not sure why Braga carries that bloody speartip around.”
  4. Penda: A weak, pathetic old man, covered in faded fineries, lived out a shack outside of Cloyne. Kel swung a heavy stick at the side of his head and he collapsed without a fight.”

Evidence and Loot

  • 400sp worth of octagonal gold coins, marked in a strange language. Kel tells us it is the language of Ghom.
  • A dagger, made out of a pretty metal.
  • An object which appears to be like a falcon hood.
  • Forgall came and went on the karvi. It certainly wasn’t Earnan who went, and Forgall wasn’t accompanied by his mother—that boy tells tales for fools, pay him no mind.
  • It rained miserably all day, and there was a bolt of lightning that everyone on the karvi saw.
  • Procession returned without his spear. Braga jokes about her new trophy, though it’s unclear if this is the tip of the spear or the new cuts on her face.

Boasts

Braga
I will not leave until I’ve laid eyes on a druid.”
